ONLINE GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING

Program Objective: To prepare you to become a highly-skilled helping professional.

Program Description: In this completely online graduate Certificate in Professional Counseling program, you can select courses which will cover the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various psychiatric disorders. You’ll also be able to develop an in-depth understanding of the primary models, theories, and techniques in individual, group, and family counseling as well as examine current methods in treating addictions. You will also be able to select courses which examine complex issues regarding alcohol and drug addiction from a wide variety of perspectives. You will also learn more about the biological, psychological, and sociological effects of short and long-term use of substances on the individual, family, and community. You can also decide if you want to learn more about how to assess, diagnose, and treat those addictions using the latest and best practices.

Program Outcomes: Students may complete this certificate for personal or professional edification or may work towards completing requirements for a clinical mental health counseling license. While the Professional Counseling Certificate is not designed to fulfill licensure requirements in an individual state, the program can be used to partially fulfill licensure requirements. Professional credentials vary by state and include requirements outside of education, which may include exams, background checks, work experience, and more. Post University does not guarantee licensure. It is ultimately the responsibility of individual students to be in charge of their own licensure process and to make sure that all requirements are met in obtaining licensure. Post University does not speak on behalf of any licensing board or body.

The following tables show whether Post University, with completion of the appropriate curriculum, does or does not fulfill the educational requirements for a specific license:
